Winter Wonders: A Two-Part Sensory Adventure
January is a time for cozy routines and curious minds at A Childcare Like HOme! To keep our little learners engaged during these chilly days in Beckley, we’ve transformed our sensory table into a two-part Winter Wonderland.
Part 1: Build-a-Snowman Jar We started with a "mess-free" snowman! I used a clear plastic jar and gave it a friendly snowman face. Inside the bin, we have a sea of soft cotton balls and poly-fill (which looks just like fluffy snow!). The children love stuffing the jar to "build" their snowman. This is fantastic for fine-motor development and hand-eye coordinatio
Part 2: The Magnetic Icy Tundra The second half of our table is where the science happens. We filled it with blue sensory rice, shimmering white and blue snowflake pieces, and shiny silver and blue metal balls. The "magic" happens when the kids use their magnetic wands to "rescue" the metal bells from the rice! It’s a wonderful way to introduce the concept of magnetism while exploring colors and textures.
